Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions, answered.

How do I wire my NEMA 1 thermostat?

The thermostat has three contact points. Most of our thermostats are wired for heating, unless specified otherwise. The red is your power – do not move this wire. The blue dot should be used for heating, and the yellow dot should be used for cooling. Click here for more information and illustrations.

What is a temperature differential?

When a switch changes states from open to closed. The difference between those two points is the differential, or hysteresis. Learn more about your line voltage thermostats differential here.

What’s a single stage vs. two stage thermostat?

Single stage thermostats are designed to control individual heating or cooling units independently. Two stage thermostats are designed to work with a heating or cooling system that operates at two levels, providing enhanced comfort and energy efficiency.

Can I switch from heating to cooling or vice versa?

Depending on the model chosen, you can change the function of the thermostat from heating to cooling or vice versa. Check out how here.

My thermostat isn’t powering my equipment, is it broken?

There are a few things you can test before calling one of our technical support reps. Go through this list, and if you are still experiencing issues, please contact us .

What is a NEMA rating?

NEMA is described as “standards that are useful in defining the types of environments in which an electrical enclosure can be used.” Learn more about NEMA ratings here.

Can I use a NEMA 1 rated thermostats outdoors?

No, NEMA 1 is rated for indoor use only, as it only protects against dust, light and indirect splashing. If the thermostat will be installed in an outdoor environment, use a NEMA 4X rated model.
